What Are Country Decorating Ideas?

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

For us who live in the country decorating ideas are not difficult to come by. Speaking for myself, I find that a great deal of my inspiration derives from the world around me. When I say that, I don’t mean to imply that I use the most obvious aspects of the country around me, only that if you look hard enough you’ll always find a subtle blend of country decorating ideas that you will be able to take into your own stylish home decor.

Decorating your home with country decorating ideas is great but if you don’t make it blend in naturally with its environment your house will stick out like a sore thumb like an invader upon the glory of nature. Surely, you have looked at a house set in the country and thought to yourself: how pretty and peaceful it was, and how much you’d really love to live there?

Have you ever wondered why this was so? Undoubtedly, it was for its simplicity and elegance, together with the fact that it blended in so well with its surroundings. If you live in the country, you’re probably unaware of what I’m talking about and you are wondering why I ‘m going on about it.

Maybe you’ve lived in the country all of your life and you really don’t see what is that wonderful about the old country decorating ideas and houses that blend in with the environment. After all, a country house is much like any other house that you can find anywhere else. Or so you might imagine.

Well, you’d be wrong on that count! Country houses are a pure joy for the person who has been living in a concrete jungle. So, if you’re fortunate enough to live in the country savour the it.

When you own a home in the country decorating ideas should be coming into your head every moment of the day and with only a little planning on your part, you can make your normal country home into a comfortable country retreat.

The only negative aspect I’ve found with this so far is the number of ideas I get from my surroundings. That might not sound like a drawback, but trust me, there’s nothing worse than having country decorating ideas pouring out of your fertile mind with almost no pause and not being able to implement them all.

However, when this flow starts to happen, I just sit back and let it take over me. I’ve always found that there is no use fighting against the inevitable, although a little dreaming never did any harm. If the ideas I’ve had are really amazing and grab my attention, I write detailed notes about what I’ve dreamed up.

So, the you have it, no matter whether the idea is to change your home into a country residence, or whether you just want to spruce up the home you already have with country decorating ideas, the inspiration should be easy to come across and just as easy to put into place. A country home is the right place to be to implement your country decorating ideas and relax from your fast workday life.

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

So, you have decided to remodel your bathroom, you have some bathroom remodeling ideas and now and you are looking for that perfect bathroom design. You know the one you want. It has to be just right for you and it has to last for years with grace. The colours must not clash, and you must be able to bear the sight of it day after day from when you finish it for many years to come.

The perfect bathroom design should incorporate every new bathroom gadget known to man and you should still have enough room to move around without bumping your head or your elbow on a protruding edge. Your perfect bathroom design ought to also pass the test of time, still looking as beautiful as it did when you first remodelled it. Its not too much to ask really, only a mini miracle on the scale of turning water into wine.

All right, let’s be completely honest about it, they are the kind of bathroom remodeling ideas that everyone is searching for, but which no-one has yet found. Or at least not to their full satisfaction. So, there is really only one thing you can to do, and that is to cut corners here and there on your perfect bathroom design. It might become slightly less perfect but at least you will still have most of your bathroom remodeling ideas from your original design.

Ofttimes, you might find that you have to sacrifice some great bathroom remodeling ideas for the sake of practicality, but don’t worry, this can also be incorporated into your bathroom design without too much of a fuss. And most likely you will not even notice too much of a difference, unless of course you wanted to move the bath clear across to the other end of the bathroom, but can’t due to logistical reasons.

In which case the whole of your bathroom remodeling ideas might need to be revised. That said however, there’s really not too much that can really go that wrong if you have a really simple bathroom design. One that’s easy to implement and is also easy on the pocket. Something else that you might want to think about is easy maintenance.

Even a very large bathroom should be easily maintainable. This need not be anything elaborate and can even be something as simple as getting a small bathroom caddy on which you can place a number of your everyday items like soap, shampoo, sponge etc..

For sure, you could always go to the other extreme by taking away all your old stuff and replacing them with state-of-the-art, easy to clean accessories instead.

The bathroom remodelling ideas are all yours and it really depends on what sort of bathroom remodelling ideas you unleashed within yourself when you first started your quest for the perfect bathroom design.

But remember that once you have begun redecorating, it is very hard to know when to stop. So, check out all your options first and then implement bathroom remodeling ideas in a manner that will get you closest to fulfilling the bathroom remodeling ideas you have for the perfect bathroom design.

Home Movie Theater Lighting

Friday, August 13th, 2010

Light fixtures are things that not many of us think about very often. However, the way we light a room can cause us to feel a certain way or enhance the atmosphere we want to create in that room. There are many types of light fixtures, fittings, bulbs, shades and stands to suit all areas of the home. That means both indoors and even outdoors where you might want to emphasize some special landscaping design.

Are you planning to redo a room? In this case, I know it concerns a home movie theater room, because my friend, Owen Jones, asked me to give some advice. I definitely think that you should consider light fixtures as one element to change. For instance, you could start by altering the central, overhead incandescent bulb or tube light for sure.

My suggestion would be to install four or even six small wall-lights; these are not expensive and come in hundreds of colours and sizes to suit any pocket. The only drawback with wall lighting for your home theater, is that the wires would really have to be chased into the wall so as not to appear unsightly.

However, you could avoid this by using standard lamps. These are also available in a myriad of designs, but they come with two drawbacks: namely trailing wires and a higher cost. They are moveable though. Small, table lamps is a sub-class alternative, but you may need more electrical points.

Once you’ve decided what you want, make each lamp dimmable either in unison or individually – that’s up to you. A good idea would be to keep one fairly powerful light at the DVD end of things in case the equipment needs adjusting, although it too could be on a dimmer.

The effect can be stunning. And all from just changing the existing light fixtures and fittings. You could even go the whole hog and have an exit sign over the door or a few speciality lights higher up out of line of sight so that they are not distracting ” say, a 1970s style lunar lamp and a fibre-optic lamp, for amusement or as a talking point while waiting for the film or snacks to be prepared.

So, whatever style home theater lighting you are thinking of, contemporary or old style traditional, you will find many options to choose from. From different colors to different sizes and styles, there are many. You can find them online or in home improvement shops. I have made a link to one of my online favourites below.

And, when you do make the changes, you will notice that your home theater has taken on an ambiance all of its own and it will ” guaranteed ” enhance your home theater experience. It may be these subtle changes, room by room, that make you see your home in a completely different light.

Ideas For Interior Design

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Redecorating your house really isn’t that simple and it only gets even less so when you become stumped for ideas. The only real way to get over this lack of interior design ideas, is to sit down, put your feet up and have some tea or coffee.

I’m not kidding, there’s really no substitute for getting a fresh perspective on things, like taking a break from everything for example. In the first place, you become more relaxed, and in the second place a steaming cup of tea or coffee is always welcome.

Now that you’re sitting down comfortably and are suitably relaxed, close your eyes and envision the room that you want to redecorate. Even if you are redecorate more than one room, it’s always a good idea to start with one room first, working your way logically through to the next one and then the next one.

Also, before you start on your journey through the maze of interior design ideas, keep a notebook and pencil at hand so that you can jot down any inspirational ideas you have before you forget them.

So, just sit back and picture the room in your mind. Try and see it as you want it to look. And if that’s too difficult, then first try to replace separate bits and pieces. This is always a good way to start. If you’ve still got a mental drought on interior design ideas, then leaf through some interior design catalogues beforehand so that you have at least a working idea of what you can do to redecorate your room.

The interior design catalogues need not be anything more expensive than your free local department store catalogue, turned to the home furnishing pages. Then again, these days you also get specialist shops which cater only to the art of redecorating your home. If you have the time, a quick trip down to one of these might also help to end the dearth on interior design ideas, and will probably help to get you kick started.

These stores will have staged sets of many designs, giving you a good idea of what your room could look like. However, if you’re going to one of these places, go prepared to spend some money as no matter how tight a hand you keep on your pocket, you’ll always find something you want to buy.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but unless you watch out you could end up buying everything in the store. And without a proper idea of what you want the room to look like, this can turn out disastrous. Not to worry though, if you keep your mental image in mind, you can come back and make a start on redecorating your rooms the way you want.

Furthermore, now that you’ve been able to get a few interior design ideas of what you want your rooms to look like, your whole redecorating project ought to be that much easier and that much more fun too.

Furnishing Your Home With Modern Furniture

Wednesday, July 14th, 2010

I knew I wanted modern furniture, but what I didn’t know was where to get it. I searched around and compared buying online to buying from a store. I’m glad I did because I found a website that had all the modern furniture I wanted.

I found an amazing blue sofa that will fit in my living room. I found that it comes in other colors too. I knew when I saw the price that was the one for me. It also comes in two sizes to fit my needs.

I was definitely looking for modern furniture so when I found a set of chairs to look great at my kitchen table I was hooked. I found beautiful wood chairs. I could either have chairs with or without arms.

The chairs I picked now needed something to sit under, so next I started looking for a table to match. I found a dark wood, square table that was a beauty. The combination of the chairs and table had the exact modern look I was going for.

When I started looking through the website’s selection of desks I knew I could be picky. With so many to pick from I narrowed down my choices to just the ones that had shelves and drawers. I found one I loved with everything I wanted!

The unique coffee and end tables were so fabulous, I feel in love with a few. At this point you’d think I wouldn’t still be surprised as how much modern furniture this website had to offer, but I was. Even more exciting was that my all of my furniture matched, giving my home a unified feel.

I started looking for bedroom furniture and they had different sizes and finishes to pick from for several styles. I chose the style I loved and the color I was looking for in a size that fit my mattress–you can’t ask for more.

Before I could call it good for the day I needed a dresser to make my modern furniture set complete. Right when I saw this awesome, six-drawer, urban dresser I bought it.

This is a one of a kind website, in my search I found other modern furniture sites, but none that offered so many choices. It’s hard to pick just one thing because you can find lots of modern furniture here that would look good in any home.

Will I Need A Home Movie Theater Projector?

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Going to the movies is a very popular recreation especially for those young professionals living a considerably stressful life running corporate affairs. However, for those who cannot afford to waste time traveling to and from movie theaters, the answer to this recreational dilemma might be just inside their own house.

You could recreate audio-visual systems of the movie theaters with your very own personal custom home theater system. The best custom home theater set up certainly can consist of high quality components that are capable of recreating the complete movie theater experience without having to drive from your dwelling to the movie theater spending time and effort queuing in heavy traffic. This modern technology can give you the relaxation and experience that full-sized movie theaters provide.

The basic components, such as a big screen and speakers with clear and flicker free images from a high quality DVD, can easily provide an almost-authentic movie theater experience. Home theater experts recommend that before you decide on the final set-up and equipment for your custom home theater system, the size of the location must be the first consideration.

So, if you have a small size room in mind for your home theater system, a TV set may be best placed in the centre of one wall and three loudspeakers, placed on the left, right and centre, might be enough to provide the surround sound you desire from a custom movie theater. However, if you have a larger room, a home theater projector might be the best option for recreating the big screen experience.

Home theater projector screens can provide an authentic movie theater experience. If you have a very large location for your home theater system, in conjunction with your home theater projector and home theater projector screen, you could add some more loudspeakers around the room. A further useful recommendation is that a sub-woofer may also help to produce the optimum surround sound to enable you to recreate that authentic sound of a movie theater in your own living room.

There are various designs and models of home theater projector you can choose from. You will need to understand the features of each one, before you decide on which one to buy. It may also be necessary for you to enlist the services of a home theater designer in order to get the home theater package that will give you the best entertainment. This will mean not needing to spend an unreasonable amount of time and money on your home theater system and home theater projector.

It is very easy to buy equipment with an over- capacity for your home theater, especially if you do not know what the options are and the various requirements that your home theater may have due to the room’s dimensions. The measurements of your home theater projector screen should be a function of the dimensions of your room and the components of your custom home theater. For example, from where you plan to sit to the screen should be about two and five times the diagonal diameter of the screen. Therefore, looking at it from the other point of view, if you want to sit 10 feet (120 inches) from the screen, then the screen should be 24-60 inches, but it is very subjective and depends on the viewers eyes.

Your home theater designer could easily also suggest options that may not require a television set for your home theater. How is this so? The reason for this is the technological innovations provided by computers and home theater projectors. Home theater projectors like InFocus screenplay models can be used in conjunction with a computer in a small room set-up. Home theater projectors are also lightweight and may be transported easily. For this reason, a projector is very useful for use in custom home theaters and business presentations.

Home theater projectors and home theater projector screens do help provide an authentic cinema-like experience. This type of set-up is extremely handy for business presentations and that is why it is becoming more and more popular. The combination of your custom home and custom office theater systems is a new innovation, which only a couple of smart consumers have dreamt up.

It may well be that being now cognizant of all these options: that is, that a normal television set, three speakers and a DVD player can be perfectly adequate for those people who only want a start-up home theater system, you may decide that you do not really need a home theater projector, especially if the room for your custom home theater system is not very big.

Enjoy a cinematographic experience right in your own home by researching your options intelligently. You can then experience the relaxation a movie theater gives you without having to endure heavy traffic on the way to and from the movie theater.

Teen Rooms Decor

Monday, July 12th, 2010

Teen rooms are a headache for mothers everywhere. It’s not even like when they were younger. In those days, if their rooms were in a mess, you could shout at them and get them to clean it up, and, barring that, you could go in and do it. But when it comes to teens and their rooms you’re dealing with a completely different kettle of fish.

Yes, you could go and ask them to clean up their rooms. And true, you could shout at them a little, if you wanted to, or go and clean the room yourself. However, that’s when all hell breaks loose. Teen rooms are sacred places and not to be interfered with unless it’s absolutely necessary.

Let Heaven help the person who tries to clean up the mess on the carpet. It was there for a good reason and you just had absolutely no right whatsoever to touch it. At least, that will be what most teens will argue and, you being the patient, loving mother that you are, will just roll your eyes skywards and explain that the pizza and grubby, old shirt thing just don’t work well together and that you were just rescuing them from impending plague.

Your teens will in turn roll their eyes and protest loudly, not to exaggerate, it wasn’t about to grow legs and walk off on its own, and if it was then wouldn’t that make a great science project. So, you keep cleaning and they keep putting things back. And so ends the story, and you’re right back to square one.

Of course, one way that you could deal with this catastrophe is to redecorate. Teen rooms might be sanctums of peace for them, but even they would like it if you gave their rooms a great makeover.

That doesn’t mean that the room will be any cleaner once they’ve moved back in, but at least you’ll have seen the inside of the room long enough to tide you over for the next couple of years. That is unless you’re thinking of redecorating their rooms every year.

But now you come to your next problem, since teens are notoriously unusual with regard to their rooms. You might discover that your teen rooms are decorated very differently from that which you had anticipated and that which you would have done beforehand. This is where a comprise should be struck, if your teen demands black walls in his room, then say you want to use another colour too that will brighten up the black.

Be prepared to compromise a little on your ideas no matter how silly their ideas seem. After all, they’re only a teen once and they will look back with horror on what bad taste they had.

It is your duty as a parent to allow them these moments in their lives that they can look back on with mock horror, and ban their kids from doing the same to their own teen rooms.

Monitored Home And Business Alarm Systems

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

Many Americans are just starting to realize that advanced security measures are not only for the very rich. You just cannot get too much security for yourself and your family or your employees. The problems in society are getting worse too, not better. The current recession is biting deep and splitting society even more into the have and have-nots, the working and the not-working.

However, these days burglars do not seek out the very wealthy, because they have all the protection that money can buy. The people most likely to be robbed and burgled are the working middle classes. They get robbed when they are at work and the kids are at school or when they are sleeping in their beds.

This is why it is necessary to have the best automated security you can afford taking care of your home and family twenty-four hours a day. But it is not only your home, your business and workers deserve security as well. How many gun-toting lunatics have shot their co-workers dead in the last few years?

Not many firms can afford security personnel but you could get the next best thing, which is electronically monitored surveillance. There are various types of system available and most are flexible enough to be adaptable to any building. You could then monitor the system yourself during working hours by having a screen in the office or your home and send the signal to a security firm at other times of the day, at weekends and at night.

If you adopt this sort of system, you will be placing your home or office in the top echelon of secured properties and professional burglars will realize it and stay away from you and yours. Most people begrudge the monitoring fees, but the system falls down, if no-one is watching the image sent by the cameras. You could try to reduce this cost by monitoring the images yourself for part of the day and relaying the image to professionals when you are unavailable. You could also ask your insurance company for a discount and ask your accountant to put the expense down against your taxes.

The good thing about a monitored system is that you know that help is at hand twenty-four hours every day. You may be living alone or prone to fits or a heart attack. You could get almost instant help in these instances by pressing the panic alarm. These panic buttons can be placed at the front and back door, in every room in the house or you could have a radio button on a necklace around your neck. These systems are quite common and are used by many care centres for the elderly or the infirm.

You will almost certainly have to do some sums to work out whether you need or can afford a monitored home security system, but there is no doubt that it is the most secure system available. However, not all home security monitoring businesses are the same, so it is worth checking up with friends or with the companies’ governing body or even the local council to see if they have a good reputation.

An Automated Home Security System

Sunday, June 20th, 2010

These days people are becoming more concerned about their home security, chiefly because of the mounting crime rate. Even homes that have an older security system should be checked to see whether their security system is out of date or acceptable.

It is not so much that an older system may stop working, but technology progresses very quickly and your sensors may not be the best variety or even the type that suit your home the best.

The type of security system that you should be using can vary as the constituent members of your family changes. For example, if you have just had a baby, you could hook up a surveillance camera to the bedroom or put a motion sensor pointing along side a toddler’s bed so that you know if he or she gets up out of bed.

There are many varieties of security systems, including wired, wireless, monitored and Internet. The Internet wireless set-up is or at least can be fully automated.

That means that you can operate it through the hand set or any online device like a laptop or desktop computer. This means that you can check up on your home from your office or when you are away on holiday.

If surveillance cameras are part of your home security system, then you will be able to see and check up on your home on your computer monitor from anywhere in the world. If you hook up sensors to some table lamps around your house, you will even be able to switch lights on and off to make it look as if you are at home when you are in fact hundreds of miles away. Put the TV on such a sensor and you can even switch that on and off as well.

If you put a surveillance camera in your children’s bedrooms and the living room, you could check up on the baby sitter or your business cash register on your WAP enabled mobile phone or PDA. This type of automated can be installed by a competent DIYer, but is intended to be fitted by professionals.

This type of automated system is very reassuring. Imagine being able to check up on your home, children or business by watching live video footage on any computer or Internet phone anywhere in the world!

An automated security system is not cheap, but is worth the peace of mind that it brings. You could get near complete automated home or business security by the end of next week. Pay for it over time, if you have too, but they are not as expensive as you may think
